'Take a selection of well-known Gospel stories, weave into them historical, social and cultural information from the first century Middle East and include the lives, nature and personal relationships of the characters involved. The result is this book. Roger Penney has carefully attempted to bring to life well-known Bible passages in this collection of short stories. In doing this there is always the risk of "adding to Scripture" and I am certain some will criticise parts of the book. However, he does not hide the fact that, although it is based on Scripture and it is as historically accurate as possible, the lives of the individuals are fictional. This type of book is not normally my scene and I found it a little too wordy but I have to admit it was insightful, interesting and inspiring, making me consider aspects of the Gospel stories I had never considered before.'
